Metal Israel Official Statement Regarding Anthem Festival

by skazm // August 15th, 2008
Mischief

As we all know, the Anthem Metal Festival was canceled. From all the talkbacks on the net and different opinions being tossed around, I have concluded that it is not prudent, advisable or even intelligent for any promoter, or any business of any industry, not to have the money up front when creating an event, and in this case, rely on kids to pay ticket fees in advance in order to pay their bands, as the situation was described on Hyde Park here by several fans as speculation.

Hopefully, Jeremy Nakache (google him) will fulfill his word and pay everyone back as soon as possible.

He has threatened to sue me for defamation and libel (I’m not sure for what) but despite suffering his insufferable insouciance, I do wish him the best of luck in creating shows in the successful thread of the Hatebreed and Machine Head performances in Israel.

I also do state that if he hadn’t brought frikkin’ Obituary on Shabbos G-d wouldn’t be zapping him the way He is.

😀 Good Shabbos.

Anthem Festival Postponed…

by skazm // August 7th, 2008
Mischief

The Anthem Metal Festival has been postponed.

Seems there was a leak because an official press statement hasn’t been released yet, but Or Barnea of Ynet reports the postponement here as being due to the reason that they want to add another international band to the line-up.

The Anthem Staff has released the following statement on Facebook:

Anthem.

Basically, he states that the festival is postponed, not canceled, and they will release a statement when the new date is set, they apologize profusely, they put a lot of hard work into this festival and they will make it up to the crowd.

The Meshuggah website states “We’re sorry to inform that the Tel Aviv festival in Israel on the 14th of August has been cancelled due to “security issues”. We really sorry for those who bought tickets to this festival and to those who was coming to see us perform in Israel for the first time. We were really looking forward to this gig, and hopefully there will be another opportunity in the near future.”

Dark Tranquillity didn’t even know about the “postponement” until I told them.

According to Blabbermouth, “THE HAUNTED’s previously announced August 14 concert at the Anthem Metal Festival 2008 at Hangar 11 on the shores of Tel Aviv, Israel has been cancelled due to “security issues.” The band said, “We are sad to say that the agreed on advance fee for the show never showed up, and in agreement with how our agent works to provide the best service and security to us as a band the show was pulled.

“We really think it sucks big hairy balls, but we have played way too many shows in the past where we or our agent have had to squeeze the agreed on fee from the promotor after huge hassles and sometimes paying money from our own pocket and in the end it just fucks with everyone from our fans, us as people and those who work with us.

“We hope there will be other opportunities in the future to make it possible for us to come and play under better circumstances.”

…and I’m still waiting on the other three.

Here’s the Jerusalem Post article… but they made some changes. Still, I’m proud. I didn’t write that Dolving made statements sympathetic to Nazis, btw. The editor read everything you see in the interview here, and made that assessment herself.

Here’s the original I wrote…

Metal Israel Exclusive Interview w/ Peter Dolving of The Haunted

International Interview, LinkedIn

I wholeheartedly disagree with the man about most of what he says but whatever. Here ya go…

photo purloined from http://www.getreadytorock.com/

“MI: I quote your April 10th, 2007 blog regarding your opinion about the Holocaust – “People in Germany man. The whole thing with what happened back in the days of Hitler and all his crazy-ass macho control freak buddies. Sometimes when I talk to people in Germany it´s as if they think I´m about to blame them for what happened back then. Who cares anymore, unless you´re a total nutter. Yes, it was horrendous, but think about it – back in those days people believed the size of your head determined your basic characteristics, intelligence and personality… Hello? It´s that whole guilt trip thing.”

We in Israel have an entire day (day by us, starts at nightfall, so by you, you’d call it a night and a day) in honor of remembering the Holocaust. Do you think we’re all total nutters, as you so quaintly put it?”

Metal Israel Exclusive Interview w/ Frost of Satyricon

by skazm // August 4th, 2008
International Interview, Mischief

Interview by Vlad Shusterman. Thanks to the promoters of the upcoming Anthem Metal Festival for arranging the interview, portions of which will appear in a Jerusalem Post article promoting the event.

MI: The last albums are characterized by this very warm and massive guitar tone, quite unusual for the genre – how do you produce it? What make guitars, amps and effects does Satyr use? Is he currently endorsed by any instrument manufacturer? Is Frost?

F: On our forthcoming album the guitars will sound quite different from anything we’ve done hitherto, owing much to the fact that they are tuned down to C. To find the right sound and tone is a project that we put a lot of work into; before recording guitars in the studio this time around, we tried out numerous different set-ups and combinations to be sure to get the optimal sound. Different combinations of guitars are used on different songs on the album; on most songs the guitar lines consists of two or three different guitars and sometimes also a baritone guitar on top of that. We use hi-end ESP guitars and Mesa Boogie amps for the most part; we do also have endorsement deals with those manufacturers. Personally I am endorsed by Mapex drums, Zildjian cymbals, Evans drum heads and Vic Firth drum sticks, something that surely makes my life as a drummer a hell of a lot easier.
