Interview w/ Eran Shaysh of Morpheus
Eran Shaysh, drummer of progressive/death/nu/gothic metal/funk/old school jazz/sixties rock/trance act Morpheus, elucidates a bit about the band and its future…
MI: Why did you guys choose the name Morpheus?
ES: The name is taken from mythology. Morpheus is the god of the dreams and our music is very unrealistic music which has many connections to the dreamworld. The lyrics are about dreams and unrealistic worlds.
MI: Why do you guys like unrealistic?
ES: Cause we feel some times like an unrealistic people…we have unrealistic minds about music sometimes.
MI: All of you listen to different styles.
ES: Yes. We are so different about music. Everyone has his musical style
but when we write our music we have big chemistry together.
MI: What’s the craziest show story you have?
ES: Two years ago we had a big show in Haifa and we had to take a taxi.
And the driver was a pimp.
MI: What do you mean, pimp? Like a real pimp?
ES: yes:)
MI: He was trying to sell you girls?
ES: yes:) After the show. He was crazy.
MI: What do you call a big show?
ES: A big show is when you’re standing on the stage and you can feel the energies from the crowd.
MI: Well, better to feel energy than rotten tomatoes. How much of a crowd does Morpheus draw?
ES: It depends….we had shows with 50 people at the beginning… but now it’s between 150-200 people… and we hope that after the CD will be for sale it will grow.
MI: Yeh, you said the CD is coming out in two months! What’s it called?
ES: The CD will have a little delay because of the army but not longer then five months… and the name is a secret for now.
MI: Who’s going into the army?
ES: Me, ZiV (bass player) and Hosh (soundman).
MI: Whoa, you guys are all 17?
ES: 18. And no, Mike (vocalist) is 28 years old and Amir (keyboardist) is 20 years old.
MI: Mike is into Alice in Chains if I recall…so what’s your favorite song from the band?
ES: I like the song “Last Fall”. This song talks about different addictions of people and their thoughts.
MI: How do you feel about having to go into the army?
ES: It’s not a treat to go to the army but I have to cuz that’s the way it is! Althought I’ll try to go to and if it will not fit me, I will leave.
MI: What do you want to do there?
ES: To be near to my house and to do a daily job so I can still practice!
MI: Is there anything else you wanna tell the world?
ES: Global peace:) lol…. no.
