Anthem Festival Postponed…

The Anthem Metal Festival has been postponed.

Seems there was a leak because an official press statement hasn’t been released yet, but Or Barnea of Ynet reports the postponement here as being due to the reason that they want to add another international band to the line-up.

The Anthem Staff has released the following statement on Facebook:

Anthem.

Basically, he states that the festival is postponed, not canceled, and they will release a statement when the new date is set, they apologize profusely, they put a lot of hard work into this festival and they will make it up to the crowd.

The Meshuggah website states “We’re sorry to inform that the Tel Aviv festival in Israel on the 14th of August has been cancelled due to “security issues”. We really sorry for those who bought tickets to this festival and to those who was coming to see us perform in Israel for the first time. We were really looking forward to this gig, and hopefully there will be another opportunity in the near future.”

Dark Tranquillity didn’t even know about the “postponement” until I told them.

According to Blabbermouth, “THE HAUNTED’s previously announced August 14 concert at the Anthem Metal Festival 2008 at Hangar 11 on the shores of Tel Aviv, Israel has been cancelled due to “security issues.” The band said, “We are sad to say that the agreed on advance fee for the show never showed up, and in agreement with how our agent works to provide the best service and security to us as a band the show was pulled.

“We really think it sucks big hairy balls, but we have played way too many shows in the past where we or our agent have had to squeeze the agreed on fee from the promotor after huge hassles and sometimes paying money from our own pocket and in the end it just fucks with everyone from our fans, us as people and those who work with us.

“We hope there will be other opportunities in the future to make it possible for us to come and play under better circumstances.”

  2. Hey there, I had planned to attend this festival. So I’d be much interested in that announcement, why the fest got postponed and to what day and things. Is it possible to translate this text? Luckily I didn’t book flights yet *sighs*

  3. if they knew they want to postpone why they let people to still buy tickets thinking they will see a show on 14th? also how can you change the date of a show just for one band?

  4. they cancelled sick of it all too because of no one paid for tickets early but that was stupid to make two shows for them and then after obituary

i heard only 1,400 people bought tickets maybe that is why
but no one want to spend so much money on tickets when they could cancel so what do they think?!?!?!?!??!??!?!?!?

  5. for all those wondering about what is written in Hebrew.the statement said that festival is postponed and they are really sorry and the explanation will be given in a short time.
if you asked me i would say that I am afraid the only reason they so called postpone the festival is in order not to get law procedures against them.
its very typical Israeli way, and im am in shame and furious.

  6. don’t blame israelis, the guy is french

  7. Honestly,
Try and find out if all the bands got the BS about “security issues” Did the ISraeli bands get the same message? Cause we know this is a bullshit reason. I wish we could encourage the bands or labels to sue Anthem for breach of contract….I would demand from them proof of a “security issue” or any security concern…and if they can’t provide every band and label should sue them.
This is a disgrace to the Israeli metal scene and quite frankly looks badly upon Jews.

  8. what does this have to do with Jews, though?

I’ll tell you this much, I’m not sure if we can go accusing them of trying to gyp everyone yet, maybe something messed up happened that we don’t know about yet. still, it’s an awful thing and they need to give a statement if they want to protect their reputation which is so completely shot right now.

  9. you bring us some hella good points, however and this may be a precedent towards the crowd taking stronger initiative when it comes to dealing with promoters here.

  10. I call upon Attorney General Menachem Mazuz and the State Prosecutor Moshe Lador to launch an investigation.

  11. I want to know when they 100% knew it would be cancelled and how that compares to when they told us and how many people paid 400 shek during that time period. That can’t possibly be legal.

  12. I would like to calm everything a little. I mean, that known festivals get cancelled for real as well as stupid reasons happens everywhere. I’m German and we have a lot of festivals over here. And even experienced promoters and organizers have to go to some strange chaos sometimes when organizing a festival. So please let’s wait till an official statement is given with the reasons behind.

But yes, for one thing the Anthem organizers are to blame for: not letting us know on time. I mean, I luckily didn’t book the flights yet, because I was waiting for the OK of the organizers. If I had done it would have been an expensive lost, same for the hotel booked and things, ya know. That’s not the right way to treat fans and festival attendees.

Though, the billing was breathtaking for a 1-day festival and I was much looking forward to visit Israel for the very first time 🙂

  13. donny, i agree with every thing you wrote.
i am going to call a police department and TV investigators as well.

  14. Well, that’s annoying.
Let’s just hope it would not be cancelled, cause if it will, we’re all doomed….no, really…
