Metal Israel Exclusive Interview: CeeKay of Stereo Chemix
MI: Please introduce us to the new band, Stereo Chemix…
CK: STEREO CHEMIX right now is John Otto (of Limp Bizkit) and Myself (Ceekay) on Vocals, NC3 on Drums, DJ Apokalypze on Turntables and vocals, and FinBarr on Guitars and Programming….
MI: How and when you did become friends with John?
CK: John and I have been friends for a few years now. We met through mutual friends DJ Lethal and Big Left. The first day we met we ended up going into the studio and recording a track, and that started the entire movement which would later become STEREO CHEMIX…
MI: If I know well, you’ll put out soon a DVD. What it will contain?
CK: The DVD is mainly a little package of inside footage and rough songs for the fans that have been with us since the early stages. It’s only being sent to those fans that are on the street team…
MI: What’s the main musical direction of the band? How important is it to you to be creative and unique with your sound?
CK: The thing about SCX is we are very open ended about our sound. There are no real boundaries, which makes the sound so different. It’s really just all of us bringing our personal styles to the mix and making it work musically….
MI: And what about the lyrics? What kind of lyrics, topics you like to operate with?
CK: Life, everything from political issues to personal issues and more. Like I said, there’s no real boundaries, so it allows us to explore anywhere…
MI: Are you workin now on the SCX album? Let us know the info on it…
CK: Yes we are, we are taking our time with this one though. The sound is
so huge that we dont want to rush it. When it’s ready we will be ready….
MI: Your other band, The Shotblockers, features the hardcore living legend Lord Ezec aka Danny Diablo. How did you hook up with him?
CK: Again, I met Lord Ezec through mutal friends, but this time it was Danny Boy from House of Pain, who is a very close friend of mine. Ezec and I have become really good friends and I tour with him currently for his solo project, Danny Diablo.
MI: If I know well, you are with him at his tours and live shows. How you enjoyed the tour with Hed.PE and and latest shows like the album release party of Necro?
CK: Great, touring is what it’ all about . I love being on the road and playing shows. Hed PE is an amazing band so that tour when very well. And of course the Necro show was off the hook, Sold out, and crazy as usual….lol.
MI: Let us know more about your hardcore/punk/metal background…which
bands and artists are your biggest influences?
CK: Well, first off my mom allowed me to buy a 12 inch of Iron Maiden when I was like 5 years old, so that was my first intro to Metal and Hardcore. As I grew up I was really into bands like Agnostic Front, Black Sabbath, DK, and D.R.I….I have always loved the energy that the music has, and it definitely has had a part in making me who I am today…
MI: The debut CeeKay solo album will be out through Suburban Noize Records. You want to show your punk/hardcore influences on this record?
CK: Definitely, the record is really amazing for me. I am really trying to encompass all the styles in music I represent into one sound, and so far its fucking amazing. I will also have a lot of great artist appearing on the record with me. For instance, I have a song with TobyONE, lead singer for H2O and Hazen St. and I’m working on a track with Mat Skiba from Alkaline Trio as well. So I’m trying to bring the Hardcore punk aspect out and show who my family is along with it….
MI: Have you ever been in Israel? Do you know some bands from Israel?
CK: No, but I really would love to come there and play shows and learn about your scene. So if there’s promoters and booking agents reading this, get ahold of my people and let’s make some “CEEKAY” shows happen….
MI: What are your next future plans?
CK: Right now, getting this solo record done, and continue to evolve the sound of STEREO CHEMIX. Those 2 projects are my main focus right now….That and of course touring the world with my music as much as possible….
MI: Any messages to the readers of Metal Israel?
CK: You’re gonna see a lot of me in the years to come, I’m just getting started !!! If you like real music that ROCKS !!! Stay tuned to CEEKAY !!!! Much Respect to you all…one
MI: Any shout outs?
CK: BIG SHOUT OUTS to my SCX family, my DMS Family, Suburban Records, all you reading this and anyone who represents what’s real to them. Stay true to you, that’s all that matters !!!! one
