My Letter to Ozzy Osbourne Regarding His Show on Chag in Israel

OK I screwed up, the show takes place the day before chag – Thank G-d! I’ve made worse mistakes…. apologies for any confusion…

It’s just a shot in the daaaark….
Dear Ozzy…

I’m someone who loves you very much, since I’m a small child. As a matter of fact, I’m still jazzed about meeting you at your book signing at Columbus Circle in NYC where I bought three books (you signed all three). And Sharon kicks ass.

The problem is I know you are a good, G-dly person (yes, I know you are which is part of why I love you) but the people that are bringing you to Israel really don’t care about G-d. They are bringing you on a Jewish holiday called Hoshana Raba, the last day of Sukkot, and there are a few problems you and Sharon should be aware of that will maybe, hopefully, will make you want to switch the date.

When someone comes to Israel, he’s in the house of G-d, Whose presence is more evident there than anywhere else in the world. Even though most of your audience and the people who are bringing you don’t care, when you come and play a show on a holiday like this, you’re trampling the sanctity of the day whether you mean to or not, and are causing a lot of Jewish people to break the holiday, maybe even tempting ordinarily religious Jews to break it because seeing you play is such an awesome thing.

G-d doesn’t like that kinda crap. At least, according to the thousands of years of holy writings and teachings Orthodox Jews have, we know that G-d doesn’t look fondly on people who perpetrate this kind of thing.

I’m sure you weren’t aware of this. You probably never heard of Sukkot in your life.

You can read all you want about it here: http://www.aish.com/h/su/

So like I said, obviously you’re G-d fearing people, I mean, I assume that from watching you and listening to you and reading your book, though I could be wrong. But yeah, it’s not good mazel (luck) for you to go crapping on G-d’s carpet by showing up in His homeland on His holy day and causing massive desecration of that day by Jews themselves (whether or not they care).

Also, anyone religious like myself will not be able to come and that’s definitely a few hundred tickets less you guys will sell right off the bat. Many religious Jews enjoy your music.

Please Ozzy, I love you. I have since I’m five. Don’t play a show in Israel on that day. Come a week later (but not on a Friday night or Saturday – the same crime happens – see? http://www.aish.com/sh/ – you should know all about the Sabbath 🙂 ).

I beg you, switch the concert date. It’s good for you. It’s good for Israel. Don’t disrespect G-d on His own turf. Please, Ozzy. And I want to come see you. I love you. Don’t play on chag.

  1. Actually, 28.9.2010 is the 5th day of Sukkot and not Hoshana-raba as you mentioned, so there is no problem with the date

  2. whoa. my bad. thanks for pointing that out. WOO HOO YAAAAY!
