THE NEW CHAPTER OF SKARHEAD: DANNY DIABLO A.K.A. LORD EZEC INTERVIEW
After a decade, Lord Ezec aka Danny Diablo comes back with one of the greatest NYHC bands ever, Skarhead. The material is really in your face hardcore style with the raw energy. Besides that, he is building the solo career with the International Hardcore Superstar album. So we have a lot to talk about..
Metal Israel: Last year you had three important releases. At first lets talk about the debut album of The Shotblockers “Remember The Nameâ€. Introduce this project, what it’s all about…
Danny Diablo: The Shotblockers project was dope to do. This release actually is a compilation/street c.d. of songs done by members of The Shotblockers. I produced the record and I am very happy of the finished product. It is an ILL-ROC RECORDS/Real Recognizes Real/Countdown Records release. I recruited some of the dopest underground rappers in the game to form a supergroup. The Shotblockers were actually at first Danny Boy, Slaine, Big Left, Puerto Rican Myke and I and then Danny Boy, Slaine and Big Left formed La Coka Nostra!!! Now The Shotblockers are Panic, Ceekay, Grizz, K.O., Stress, Damian Burnz, G-fella and I. We are all family…
MI: Artistically, what’s the difference this album represents for you in your career?
DD: Well I am doing a lot of producing nowadays. I like putting shit together and fine tuning things. I stand back and play my role in this group. I let the group spit hard and kill it. I just listen to it and put it together so it sounds dope!!!
MI: After a decade you dropped a new album with your legendary NYHC group Skarhead. How did the whole idea come together?
DD: I told Laurens from I Scream Records that if I ever did a Skarhead record it will be with him. I had some downtime after recording Danny Diablo and The Shotblockers so I decided to do the Skarhead record. We recorded that record in 7 days!!! Dean Boultinous was the engineer and did an amazing job recording Skarhead. It was a blessing to work with him. I produced the record and I am very, very happy with it. We wrote everything on the spot. I had Aaron White Owl, Zack White Wolf, Riggs, A.k. Ray,Wes, Matty Pasta all write with me on this record. If it wasn’t for those dudes this record wouldn’t be what it is… Dope as hell!!!
MI: Musically how would you compare it to the previous records, especially “Kings At Crimeâ€?
DD: Drugs, Music & Sex is more in your face and sounds better to me. Kings At Crime is a great record but this record got some big balls to it.
MI: Ceekay Jones jumped as the second singer, how would you describe your style?
DD: He is dope!!! He can do hip-hop and he can definitely do hardcore/punk!!! He killed it on this record. His style is almost like G.B.H/Exploited. He is very talented and kills it on stage also.
MI: And what are your plans with the group now? It’s a full-time thing again with constant tours or more of a side-project?
DD: Doing a world tour with Skarhead this year. Just played Europe and the States. Going to Canada in a few days. Skarhead World Domination Tour 2010. Full time with Skarhead and Danny Diablo.
MI: It came out through I Scream Records. How did the whole situation come together with them?
DD: I love I Scream Records. Laurens and Helena are the best!!!
MI: Your long-awaited solo record, “International Hardcore Superstar†is also out finally. It was a long road to make that happen. How would you describe the material?
DD: It took me almost 3 years!!! This record is my crossover record. All types of music lovers can listen to this record and get down. It has a song for everyone on it.
MI: It is out in iTunes, do you plan to drop it in CD as well?
DD: It will drop this month on CD, finally!!! I really don’t even know the release date but it is dropping!!!
MI: Can we say that this album is the definition what thugcore is all about?
DD: It is pure Danny Diablo!!! It is Thugcore at it’s best…
MI: Probably the most important thing is that recently you became a father. As a musician with a busy tour schedule, how much has it changed your life?
DD: I miss my family dearly when I am on the road. I have been away from my family for a month and a half and it kills me. I talk to them almost every day but it sucks because my son is 15 months and is growing real fast. He is changing every day more and more. He is my life. My main concern is my family and providing for them. My music is a job and has to be run like a job in order for me to provide. I still have fun with it but when it comes to touring I am all business!!! I am Jewish so I am good with my money…
MI: You are working on the Kaos13 and Icepick records albums as well. What direction do you want to go with them?
DD: I just finished the KAOS 13 record!!! It is so gutter. I love this record cause Grizz and I destroy the tracks. Grizz Rock and I are a dope team. No one can touch us on wax and on the live stage!!! Period. Icepick is in hiatus for now…
MI: Any next future plans?
DD: I am launching my website – ill-rocrecords.com . You can get all my music and merchandise from this site. You can also see what the Dirty Money Syndicate is doing. The site will also have artists like Panic, Diggy,Adlib, The Subhoodz, Skarhead, Crown Of Thornz, Eye-Ra-Haze and lots more. Also look out for the new clothing line Dollars Make Sense by Mque, Stae and I. I am doing 2 books. One on Graff. and one about my life.
MI: Any last messages to the Israeli readers?
DD: My production company will be doing mad stuff this year. Look out for Glock Kosher Productions!!! Happy Passover.
