MIXI: As Nasty As They Wanna Be: Eran Segal Speaks for WhoreXCore

Eran Segal from Whorecore and Soon In Here answers some questions about touring Europe, playing with Hatebreed, and new recordings with Sven de Caluwe, also of Aborted

MI: Why did you call yourself WhoreXcore?

ES: Stole it from a friend’s MIRC nickname. Bad decision.

MI: What made you think of putting a girl on the X (something they used to do in their stage show)?

ES: Getting bloody filthy rich on the back of all grindcore bands that came before us,and to gain popularity as a thrill for nothing kinda band…seriously though just thought it’d be cool, and the fact that you’re asking this question four years after the last time that X was used pretty much proves it was.

MI: That was four years ago. I think your music is more technically impressive and extreme than to need some frecha tied up on a frikkin’ X for shock value. I haven’t seen you since, so I need to ask what are you doing during your stage show now?

ES: Well, now we’re more focused on the delivering the most bad ass shit kicking death metal we can. We still rumble around pretty roughly but the whole thing kinda took a different twist, the music and showmanship that is. You really oughta drop by for a show next time you’re in the country.

MI: Bezrat Hashem. Are you guys really as nasty as your lyrics portend?

ES: Yup. Aside from playing death metal we’re also known as the 6 headed dragon in different circles. Some of us specialise in assassinations and weaponry, some are pretty high up in the Ramle drug chain, while the rest spend their time hacking to people’s Myspace accounts and manually send out thousands of messages regarding breast enlargement pills and 80’s synth pop ring tones. We are ALL however EXTREMELY SATANIC!

MI: I knew I would get an answer like that. You didn’t disappoint. What is the nastiest thing you ever did?

ES: I could tell you..but then I’ll have to kill you.

MI: Who did the cover of the new release? It’s awesome.

ES: It was done by these two guys called Martin Saavedra and Victor Cabo who work for Spina Studios, and it’s actually a picture of the 6 headed dragon’s headquarters (my toilet).

MI: I like the way your two vocalists, Mr. Jones and now Sven De Caluwe of Aborted and Leng Tche interplay. What made you decide to come up with that format?

ES: Each vocalist has his own style that together formulate a lethal sound of brutality…I dunno it kicks ass, so we dig it.

MI: The new release is called “She’s Wearing Their Skin?” How come I don’t see it on the Myspace page?

ES: Nah,”She’s Wearing Their Skin (Still Invisible)” is the title of the opening track from Protection.

MI: But dude, comment and leave where you can get it cause I can’t see where to get that disc from your Myspace site.

ES: The lyrics deal with hollow people that tend to live their lives through the lies that they are fed by the people they worship and the vanity of the human race. And fuzzy little bunny rabbits.

MI: It’s probably hard having Sven be in three different bands. But don’t a lot of you moonlight as well? In what projects?

ES: Haim plays in Bo La’bar, that in good time will take over the entire country of Israel. I play in Soon In Here and Sven’s in Aborted (he just quit Leng Tche). We manage to get shit going though.

MI: You’ve been doing a lot of touring – in April, you toured in Europe. What was that like? Where was your favorite place to play?

ES: I was just talking with Haim about that last night. That was one the best times I’ve ever had. a realization of all the death metal dreams I’ve had since boyhood, not to mention sharing the stage (and bus) with one of my all time favorite bands- Macabre. For a European or an American band, touring may not be such a big deal cause you just load your van and start driving as far your van gets you. In Israel, unfortunately, it’s quite a different story as our neighbors are not exactly fond of us or the the fine art of grindcore, which is very limiting to our traveling options to say the least. So it is much harder logistically and financially to find yourself on a decent tour. It’s always a big deal where a band from the Israeli scene does the ‘big step’, and we are proud of all of brothers who did and represented Israeli metal or punk rock for the rest of us.

MI: You recently opened for Hatebreed in Israel. How was that?

ES: It’s not every day that a band from the States comes to Israel (more like almost NEVER), so there was a pretty cool buzz to begin with. On a personal level, it was a very special event, because much like macabre- I’m really into Hatebreed, and they’re one of my favored new school hardcore bands around. In my opinion, their set was speckless and possibly one of the best I’ve seen in Israel, EVER. They’re an amazing band and great down to earth people. I really hope we’ll get to play with them again.

MI: I heard the Barbie handpicked you to open for them and take care of the whole show setup. How’d you feel about that? Why do you think they picked you?

ES: It wasn’t the Barbie but the production of the event. We were very honored to have been a part of that thing. I think they chose us cause in a way Whorecore has always been a middle ground between metalheads and hardcore kids here in Israel, which is something you can definitely relate to Hatebreed. Besides, they knew we’d torch the club if they wouldn’t let us play there.

MI: Anything else you want to say?

ES: Yeah. We just finished our first recording with Sven in the line up,we’re not sure exactly what we’re gonna do with the recordings because we originally intended them to be demos for our own use, but they came out so goddamn cool we might be doing “something” with ’em. Now this is half-exclusive news here so pay attention-check out our page at Myspace from time to time cause we might be putting some of the recordings on there in the future. Keep supporting Israeli death metal!!!!!

  1. For those wondering why not, I don’t post shows that are on Shabbos or during Bein HaMtzarim.
