There is an up and coming band that has been tearing up the underground recently. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, they are known as Daath. Although the band is pretty new, these guys are certainly no strangers to music. Having attended the revered Berklee College of Music, Eyal Levi (guitar) and Michael Kameron (vocals, keys) were already excelled musicians when they first began collaborating years ago. In 2003, they found a new direction and named it Daath. They immediately recorded their self-released debut album Futility. The album did well for a self-release and a tour that supported Misery Index and Arsis put Daath on the map. When it came time to record their second album, The Hinderers, Daath knew they had to step it up. So they hooked up with the legendary James Murphy to produce. Eyal Levi has said that working with James Murphy has been a great experience. And it seems that James Murphy feels the same way because he was so impressed with the band and album that he asked the band to let him search for a label for the band before they self-released the album. It was that recording and Murphy’s search that led Daath to their recent fortune of signing a worldwide contract with Roadrunner Records. Daath then decided to re-do the album and James Murphy stayed on to produce again, adding 5 new tracks. But this time, they were also able to get the legendary Colin Richardson to do the final mix.Adding to their recent fortunes, they were able to recruit the very well known Kevin Talley (ex-Chimaira, ex-Misery Index, ex-Dying Fetus) on the drums. The addition of Kevin Talley has only fueled their excitement to new levels. The Hinderers is scheduled to be released on January 30th, 2007. I’ve been following these guys for about a year now, and while I haven’t heard the new version of The Hinderers, I can tell you from what I’ve heard, they will not disappoint.
They are currently touring with Cattle Decapitation and Goatwhore, which is about to wrap up soon. But not to worry if you missed it because they will be hitting the road again with Job For A Cowboy and The Acacia Strain beginning January 12th, 2007. Click Here for specific dates and cities.
Bio Blurb: Pulling influences as diverse as classical, death metal, and electronica together into a cohesive and compelling sound, DAATHs music transcends genre-tagging despite the obvious preponderance of such death-metal staples as fast, powerful drumming, thick raging guitars, and gutturally menacing vocals.
