Global Metal Tentative Release Date Planned for September 2007

Director Sam Dunn w/ Ronnie James Dio

Just checked in with the Global Metal/Metal History Crew… the release of Global Metal is tentatively scheduled for a September 2007 release.

Global Metal is the sequel, sort of, to Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. You can read more about that monumental documentary here.

Global Metal will be a kick-ass documentary exploring the sociological aspects of metal as a nation all its own, among other things. Most of the main players on the Israeli metal scene were interviewed for this film (as well as metalfolks host of other countries like Iran, Japan, China, Indonesia, Brazil, etc.) so it’s definitely worth a check-out.

Gogol Bordello, 4.11.06, Living Room, Providence, RI USA

Mischief, Show Review

These Gypsies and their lead singer, Eugene Hutz, were in my favorite movie called Everything Is Illuminated.

Photographer Ben Schneider (visit his site here) was kind enough to let me publish his dramatic article on my site.

Gogol Bordello Shares Its Gypsy Heart
Ben Schneider

Real live Gypsies in Providence. No, for real. Real punks. Yes, punks. Punk Rockers, that is. A band called “Gogol Bordello.”

These gypsy ambassadors and ambassadresses brought their colorful fusion of music, along with, presumably some of their much stereotyped, yet perhaps less-often-viewed-first-hand, and of course, less understood, culture to Providence on November 4 to the Living Room.

Lamb of G-d’s Randall Blythe Does A Xmas Album…with a Jewish Woman Who Shall Remain Nameless

OK.

As many of you know I’m forbidden to advertise girl singers because of the fact that “kol isha ervah”.

However, this six month old tidbit I just dug up from some Virginia newspaper is really hilarious, so what I’m gonna do is just take out the woman’s name.

What could folk-pop singer-songwriter @$%@$%@% and trash-talking metal musician Randall Blythe have in common? Christmas.

CD Review: The Makkabees

Jew CD Review, Mischief

Rammstein meets Fiddler on the Roof? That’s what their Myspace site says. Not quite, however. It’s the Yiddishe classics made basic metal, in the vein what Yidcore does with punk. Some splices are better than others. It’s definitely worth a perusal if you wanna hear the traditional tunes strung out on electric guitar and screeching vocals. They even have the requisite power ballad in there, “Oseh Shalom”. What’s really nice is that a dollar from every CD sale helps MAZON feed hungry people around the world so if you get the album you’re giving tzedakah too. Check out their main website here.

Arafel Made It To Spain…

…or at least, a Spanish language Torrents site, along with a Torrent of all their stuff. Basically, from what little Spanish I know, the person who posted says that they’re peculiar metal from Tel Aviv. He calls them peculiar because they have atypical elements, extensive composition, rhythm changes, good detail, “riffs de guitarra muy thrasher en ocasiones” sounds pretty much the same in English, and basically, he sings their praises. Check out the post here.

New Blood: Proven

Metal Israel correspondent Bela Nagy from Salatamagazin interviewed vocalist Marc Halverson of Portland, Oregon hardcore act Proven. The band stands on its own two feet in regard to quality and I am eagerly looking forward to sponging the new disc off of them. But if you need references, Proven is notably DFL and their debut EP was produced by Billy Graziadei of Biohazard/Suicide City.
