DMA Wraps Up New Album Available for Download

by skazm // July 24th, 2007
Mischief

Israeli alternative metal band DMA has finished recording its debut album, “Jamas Vu”, with German producer/guitar virtuozo Rolf Munkes (RAZORBACK, EMPIRE) at Rolf‘s Empire Studios in Germany. The CD, which is scheduled for release on July 13, can be heard in its entirety on DMA‘s official web site.

Formed in 2003, DMA — which stands for “Direct Memory Access” — describes its sound as “beefy guitar riffs that penetrate your mind and there’s nothing you can do about it, powered by the groove generated by drums and bass, and gently flavored with rich vocal melodies.” The band’s influences include TOOL, INCUBUS, A PERFECT CIRCLE, SLIPKNOT and MUDVAYNE.

thanks, Blabbermouth. I mean, I knew of it already but you made it so easy.

WhoreXCore’s latest effort is being mixed by Hatesphere’s Jacob Bredahl in a pattern that a few Israeli acts have been hoping is one route to success.

For example, Seek Irony’s last release was produced by Sylvia Massey-Shivey of Tool fame (among others). Jonas Kjellgren from Scar Symmetry mixed The Fading’ latest.

Jonas Kjellgren of Scar Symmetry was kind enough to answer some questions about working with (who I think will be the next act to break out of Israel besides Seek Irony), The Fading, as well as a host of other interesting tidbits…

From Blabbermouth…

Independent Film Channel (IFC) launched the second season of “The Henry Rollins Show” in April with the television event, “Henry Rollins: Uncut from Israel”. This 90-minute special was taped during Rollins‘ recent trip to Israel where he performed two nights in Tel Aviv.

Rollins spoke with the Artisan News Service about the experience. Watch the report at YouTube.

“Henry Rollins: Uncut from Israel” weaves Rollins‘ latest spoken-word show in Tel Aviv with documentary footage chronicling his tour around often politically infused locations in Jerusalem including The Wailing Wall, Church of the Holy Sepulcher and The West Bank Security Wall. In this special, Rollins returns to Israel for the first time in ten years with relevant commentary on pop culture, world events and the resilience of the Israeli people. The documentary footage includes candid conversations with world-renowned photojournalist and Israeli native Ziv Korren, who leads Rollins on a personal tour throughout Israel.

A member of the USO, Rollins has traveled to Afghanistan, South Korea, Iraq, Kuwait, Honduras, Djibouti, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar and other locations to entertain and meet U.S. troops, as well as gain an up-close understanding of these regions rife with conflict.

Metal Israel Shutting Down for Bein HaMtzarim

In accordance with the laws pertaining to Bein HaMtzarim or “Between the Straits”, known in English simply as the three weeks, I won’t be posting anything until after Tisha b’Av, which on this year falls out July 24. that is, unless I feel like it and it’s something that won’t, um, accessorize.

Nine Inch Nails to Play September 5th in Ganei HaTa’arucha, Tel Aviv

Mischief

According to Ynet, Nine Inch Nail will hit Israeli shores after shows in Germany and Italy and after Israel, they will continue to Korea and Australia.

This year, the band released the album “Year Zero” and drove people nuts with a unique marketing campaign (this is a shit translation now but my Hebrew sucks still, what can I do) that used every type of media outlet imaginable. Reznor mentioned that he didn’t use just a plain gimmick to market the album – that he used art.

In May the band started their huge tour to promote the new album, and tickets sold out even before the tour actually started.

Yes, heed well the words of Mr. Mustaine.

More video footage of MEGADETH’s July 2, 2007 concert in Tel Aviv, Israel has been posted online. The show marked the band’s first appearance in Israel since June 2005 when the group’s performance at the Metalist Festival was stopped after only four songs due to the crowd’s rowdy behavior (see previous BLABBERMOUTH.NET stories: Story#1, Story#2). Watch video footage of last night’s performance at YouTube:

Dave Mustaine addressing Israeli fans: Video

Video footage of an interview/press conference with the members of MEGADETH, held on Sunday (July 1) in Tel Aviv, has been posted at this location.

And a specific gem of Dave Mustaine’s political bearings I enjoyed…

“I’m sure the United Nations does some good stuff. I mean, they’ve got one of the most beautiful women in the world pushing rice in Darfur. But that’s the irony of it all. They’ll send those C130s over there full of supplies, drop it off and…the rebels get it. Deliver it all the way if you’re going to deliver it. What good is it if it goes to the bad people? Then there are these allegations of women and children being raped by peacekeepers in Africa — the first time that happens it’s a crime, the second time it is a travesty.”

“Why doesn’t Michael Moore do an expose on the UN? When I see Syria on the Security Council [in 2002-2003], am I supposed to feel secure? It’s mad….They just rely on UNICEF, this one good thing they’re doing, to cover up all the stuff that they’re not doing, to put them beyond dissent. I’m not impressed. How long are they going to sit by and watch Hezbollah fire Katyusha rockets into Israel from Lebanon? That’s a question I’d like answered.”

Thanks, Blabbermouth
